Crypto Control: The ideal predator against large pests
Cryptolaemus montrouzieri is a predatory insect that devours mealybugs, used in biological control due to its effectiveness in combating severe infestations of citrus mealybug (Planococcus citri) and other species. Although it prefers mealybugs, it can also feed on insects such as aphids. An ideal product for horticultural, ornamental, and fruit crops.
How Cryptolaemus montrouzieri acts
Cryptolaemus montrouzieri can be found as larvae, measuring around 13–14 mm, with a structure similar to mealybugs, which helps them camouflage. Adults, on the other hand, are about 4 mm long and dark brown. They typically have a life cycle of 4 to 7 weeks depending on the temperature. They are not active if the temperature does not drop below 9 °C or exceed 33 °C.
Both larvae and adults feed on mealybugs. Some aspects to consider when applying it are:
- Young larvae and adults primarily eat mealybug eggs.
- Larger larvae are not selective: they catch the prey and eat it whole.
- Although it prefers mealybugs, as it has a broad diet, it can also attack spider mite outbreaks if there are many.
How to use Crypto Control
When using this product, the following steps should be followed:
- Open the container directly over the crop, allowing the adults to release uniformly. Release early in the morning or at dusk.
- Recommended dosage: 2–10 individuals/m² upon detecting the first symptoms. Adjust according to crop type and pest level.
- Storage: A maximum of 48 hours after receipt. Keep between 10–15 °C, away from direct sunlight and pesticides. Avoid breaking the cold chain.
