Today we are going to talk about fruity cannabis strains, varieties that call out to us with their aroma and are increasingly sought after by cannabis growers.
Cannabis cultivation is on the rise, and with it, more and more users are looking for their perfect plant. Whether for therapeutic or recreational use, the genetic evolution achieved by different breeders and seed banks has offered us a wide range of flavors and effects.
On this occasion, we will set aside the distinction between indica and sativa varieties and focus on flavor. Specifically, we will review the especially fruity varieties that we have been finding on the market.
Classification of cannabis flavors
Within cannabis flavors, traditional and experienced growers have distinguished a basic classification between Skunk, Incense, and Fruity. However, it is very risky to make such a simple distinction, as each variety can have multiple nuances and we could find, for example, a Skunk with a fruity flavor.

What causes the differences between smell and taste?
And before we start analyzing what we consider the most relevant varieties with fruity characteristics, do you know what causes these types of differences in smell and taste?
It is, fundamentally, the so-called terpenes that provide our plant with these nuances.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are organic molecules that are part of the secondary metabolites of plants. As such, they constitute the majority of the plant’s essential oils and are found in high proportions in its resin.
For plants, they are chemical weapons against predators, they attract pollinators (bees, for example), and protect against high temperatures. Some growers talk about using halide lights during the last weeks of flowering, as increasing the thermal stress to which the bud is subjected promotes the biosynthesis of a higher concentration of terpenes, thus causing greater flavor enhancement.
For us, the consumers, they are often a delight for the senses. Not just taste and smell, since terpenes also provide certain psychoactive effects (acting in synergy with cannabinoids) of one type or another depending on their class and predominance.
Although more than 100 different types of terpenes have been discovered (myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene, pinene, terpinol, etc.), keep in mind that the combination and fusion of one with another means that we can practically consider the smells and flavors of our dear friend to be infinite.
Types of fruity cannabis varieties
In this case, within fruity cannabis varieties, we will focus on purely fruity or fruity-tasting varieties. Although each has its characteristic fragrance, it is difficult to determine, in the combination of several of them, which terpenes are the ones that cause that flavor in each case. Within the fruity variations, we can include some such as citrus (lemon, orange, grapefruit…), others with a red fruit flavor (strawberry, cherry, blueberry…), and the more tropical/exotic ones (pineapple, mango, candy…).
Citrus
Perhaps the most abundant. Some very famous ones with a lemon flavor include Sensi Star from Paradise Seeds, Super Lemon Haze from Green House Seeds, or Lemon Skunk.
For those who prefer an orange flavor, we find California Orange from Dutch Passion, Tangie from DNA Genetics, or, closer to mandarin, such as Cream Mandarine from Sweet Seeds.
We cannot forget grapefruit; Sweet Deep Grapefruit from Dinafem stands out with this flavor.
Red fruits
For example, with a strawberry flavor, there is Strawberry Cough from Dutch Passion or Arjan’s Strawberry Haze from the Green House Seeds bank.
With flavors close to blueberries or grapes, we find BlueBerry from Dutch Passion. However, do not be carried away by the suffix “Berry,” as it is not always indicative of that sweet fruity flavor.
Exotic
Within these flavors, we can distinguish, for example, the hint of guava in Pure Power Plant from White Label (not the whiskey), others with a mango flavor like Txomango from Genehtik Seeds or Delahaze from Paradise Seeds, and some others, for example, with a pineapple flavor, such as Pineapple Chunk from Barney’s Farm Seeds.
Candy or bubblegum
Others in this category are those recognized for their candy or bubblegum flavor. Among these, we find Bubblegum from Serious Seeds, Bubba Kush from Dinafem, or Cream Caramel or Red Poison from Sweet Seeds.
It should be noted that the GreenHouse Seeds bank is working on terpene analysis. As such, they are one of the few (to avoid sticking our necks out by saying “the only one”) that offers users and growers a wide and detailed table of flavors and their correspondence with the varieties in their bank.

We repeat that there are many nuances and flavors, many banks and growers, as well as many ways of growing, and even more palates and tastes.
It is difficult to determine which are the best varieties or the most characteristic in each of these fruity nuances or flavors. That is why we invite you to search and consult your trusted experts and experienced growers/consumers, and we hope that in your search for your perfect variety, this guide has been able to clear up some doubts or guide you in your search.
Happy and fruity smoking to all.
