The contribution of celebrities in the medicinal cannabis business has been rising for the past few years. The professionalization of the cannabis industry in conjunction with some regulations taking place in different countries regarding consumption and cultivation, plus recent therapeutic discoveries, have raised interest among plenty of celebrities. Musicians, athletes and other entrepreneurs have decided to invest in companies devoted to the noble art of medicinal cannabis.

For someone that has taken as many blows in life as Mike Tyson, medicinal marijuana could be very helpful to alleviate certain spasms and muscle inflammations. This legendary and famous American boxer has manifested on plenty of occasions that “weed saved him from himself”. The first of these companies invests in businesses that manufacture hemp-based products and the second one centers its activity around cannabis. Due to the fact that marijuana is actually legal in the state of California, Tyson’s Ranch (40 hectares and located in the Mojave Desert) makes more than half a million dollars a month.

Famous soccer player, model and European celebrity, David Beckham is also a successful businessman that has engaged in different sectors. His last investment is related to medicinal marijuana. This Real Madrid and Manchester United ex player has bought Cellular Goods shares through DB Ventures, his investment fund. This company manufactures all sorts of medicinal cannabis-based products.

Miley Cirus’ career has been linked to marijuana consumption since she was Hannah Montana in Disney Channel; and throughout her later musical turnover. Nowadays, she owes Papers Shine, a rolling paper limited-edition made of gold leaf. This is the case with Maximillian White; a 40-year-old English magnate who has expanded his activity with the cultivation of medicinal cannabis. Maximillian had previously succeeded in the music sector and in the real estate business.

He lives in Mallorca, concretely in La Serra de Tramuntana, and owns a medicinal cannabis farm in Portugal that is over 40 hectares and makes more than 1.5 billion euros a year. He has become one of the biggest Instagram influencers and Forbes magazine labels him as “the first multimillionaire of the cannabis industry”.

Jay-Z is a worldwide famous rapper. He is also a very important American entrepreneur involved in different sectors, such as fashion, sports, food or entertainment. He decided to step into the cannabis market a couple of years ago and teamed up with Caliva, a famous California weed brand. In 2019, as the director of operating strategies, he engaged in a new cannabis line called Monogran.

Cannabis is Snoop Dogg’s synonym. This eccentric American rapper is a musical reference to the cannabis industry for the past two decades thanks to his constant battle towards decriminalizing marijuana all over the United States. Nowadays, the mythical songwriter of “Smoke the weed” owes his own line of cannabis-based products called Leafs by Snoop. He is also a Seedo ambassador and his image sponsors its revolutionary automated cannabis grow box.

Cameron Jibril Thomaz is a famous American singer and songwriter that has become very popular among the cannabis industry; his name is associated with different marijuana products and companies. He even requested ex-president Barack Obama to use taxes generated by selling cannabis towards financing the public education system. The famous Canadian rapper has associated with Canopy Growth, a prestigious cannabis producer, in order to create an affiliate called More Life Growth Company. This alliance brings new impetus to a company that has already benefited a fair bit by the cannabis regulation in the United States. The firm and Drake himself state that “this company will devote the rest of its existence seeking consumers’ personal growth and well-being”; offering first quality products for medicinal and recreational use.

Sister Act, Ghost and The Color Purple protagonist was one of the first American celebrities in proclaiming herself in favor of therapeutic cannabis use due to its demonstrated medicinal properties. Therefore, she decided to fund the Whoopi & Maya company, aimed at offering natural and safe alternatives for menstrual pain. Such company has currently ceased its activity due to disagreements within the management board that made Goldberg leave the company.

The World’s Health Organisation (WHO) regarding cannabis therapeutic properties; along the legal regulations that took place in countries like Canada or USA, have opened the possibility to turn medicinal marijuana into a successful and prosperous business. For this reason, the celebrities mentioned in this article and other public figures have decided to join this rising sector; which still has plenty of objectives to be attained.
