The well-known English newspaper, The Guardian, made a map based on a study made on where the most marijuana is smoked, and where the prices are the lowest. If you want to know more about the price of marijuana, we have an article that talks all about it.

This investigation stems from the depenalization of private growing in countries such as Paraguay, where the cannabis black market has been reduced substantially and the quality of available product has grown quite a lot.

The article published in The Guardian tells us that Italy is the country where most marijuana is smoked; 14.6 people per 100 between the ages of 15 and 64 smoke marijuana. In the top 5 after Italy you can find Nigeria with 14.3, Canada with 10.9, Australia with 10.3 and Spain, with 9.6.

The countries where the least marijuana is smoked are Venezuela, where just 1.66% of the population consumes marijuana, Paraguay with 1.6%, China with 0.7% and Peru with 0.7%.

People’s habits differ in every country for a myriad of reasons such as elevated prices or legislation on consuming or possessing marijuana.

China is quite a paradoxical case, having the one of the cheapest marijuana markets in the world at 0.8 dollars per gram; it’s also in the list of countries where the least amount of consumers is. In the Asian country it’s completely legal to grow marijuana, and they’re also the biggest producers of hemp in the European and American market. On top of all of that, the Chinese government protects and helps those that work with hemp fibers, like the textile industry. Unfortunately, the Chinese authorities are extremely strict when it comes to cannabis consumption, and you can be sent to prison for 5 years to life or be deported if you’re caught with more than 10 grams on you. If you get caught with over 5kg of marijuana, they can charge you with conspiracy to sell drugs, and the sentence for that is death.

This is exactly why you need to know about each countries laws and culture before you go there to smoke marijuana.
