Cannabis lollipops are one of the many different ways to consume this herb. In fact, sweet edibles are a pretty popular format, whether they are gummies, candies, lollipops, or baked goods like brownies, cookies, muffins, or sponge cake. They can be made with marijuana, rich in THC, so they have a psychoactive effect, or with CBD products, which don’t cause any “high” but have different interesting therapeutic benefits.
How cannabis edibles affect you
Maria lollipops and other edibles offer a very different experience from smoking or vaping. They are a good alternative for people who don’t like or can’t smoke. They’re also perfect for adding some fun to a special party. Ingesting cannabis causes a pretty powerful trip that is very different from the effects of inhaling the herb. The only problem is you have to be very careful because the effects take quite a while to appear, and it’s harder to calibrate the dosage.
In other words, a person can eat a maria lollipop and wait for an hour without feeling anything, only to then eat a second one and realize that the first one is just starting to take effect. This situation is quite common, so when consuming THC edibles, it’s essential to be patient and not rush. It’s even recommended to only try half the suggested dose and wait at least an hour and a half before taking the second dose. The edible cannabis experience takes time to hit but can last for hours.

How to make cannabis lollipops
Many people who have never cooked with cannabis think that to make marijuana edibles, all you need to do is add the buds to the recipe. Not only will this not have any effect, but it’s also likely to taste awful. To make any type of edible with this herb, it must first be decarboxylated and then infused in a fatty substance. Another option is to create a tincture. Below we explain how to make them.
How to make cannabis tincture
Making cannabis tincture (or CBD flower tincture) is much easier than you think. You don’t need special equipment or tools.
Ingredients and materials
- 30 grams of cured cannabis buds
- 2 cups of high-proof alcohol or vegetable glycerin
- Grinder to crush the cannabis
- Baking paper (parchment paper)
- Baking tray
- Cheesecloth (gauze for straining)
- 2 coffee filters
- Measuring cup
- Elastic band
- Small funnel
- 2 airtight glass jars
- Dropper bottles

Making the tincture
The first step, as mentioned earlier, is to decarboxylate the marijuana. This means heating the buds to activate them. By heating this herb, THCA, which is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, is converted into THC, the substance that causes effects. The same happens with cannabidiol: decarboxylation turns CBDA into CBD.
So how do you do this process? First, grind the buds until they’re a coarse powder. Preheat the oven to 110ºC and line the baking tray with parchment paper. Spread the marijuana on the tray and bake for about 30-45 minutes. Let the decarboxylated marijuana cool and store it in one of the airtight jars.
Add alcohol or glycerin until all the herb is submerged. About 2 cups. Close the jar and let it sit in a cool, dark place for 6 to 8 weeks. The longer it sits, the more potent the tincture will be. Shake the jar every day to stir the contents and allow the trichomes from the flower to keep dissolving.
After this time, the tincture will be ready, it just needs to be filtered. For this, take the other jar and place the cheesecloth over the opening, creating a double layer. Secure it with an elastic band to make it easier to work with.
Pour the tincture and begin removing any plant matter. Then clean the first jar well and filter the tincture again, this time using the two coffee filters on the mouth of the jar.
Prepare the small dropper bottles and fill them with the tincture using a small funnel. Now you have your tincture ready to use. Store it in a cool, dark place.
Making cannabis butter
To make cannabis butter or oil, you need the following:
Ingredients and materials
- 7 grams of ground, decarboxylated cannabis
- 2 sticks of butter (1 cup) or 1 cup of oil (preferably coconut or olive oil)
- Cheesecloth
- Airtight jar

Making cannabis butter or oil
This is done by making an infusion of marijuana in a fat medium. To do this, heat the butter or coconut oil until it melts. Then add the decarboxylated cannabis and let it simmer for two to three hours at a temperature of 70-80ºC (it shouldn’t boil). Alternatively, you can make this infusion in a double boiler. After this time, let it cool and strain the mixture with the cheesecloth, then store your special butter or oil in an airtight glass jar.
Recipe for making cannabis lollipops
Now that we have the base ingredients with cannabis, we can make our maria lollipops.
Ingredients and materials
- 1 cup of sugar.
- ¼ cup of filtered water.
- 3 tablespoons of cannabis butter or 3 tablespoons of tincture.
- 1 drop of food coloring (optional).
- ½ cup of corn syrup or syrup.
- 1 tablespoon of citrus flavoring (or any other flavor you choose).
- Molds for making the lollipops.
Making the marijuana lollipops
Put a saucepan on the heat and add the cannabis butter. If you’re making the maria lollipops with tincture, you can grease the saucepan with a bit of regular butter.
Add the sugar, corn syrup, and filtered water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves and starts to darken. Add a few drops of food coloring and let the mixture boil. It should reach 150ºC.
If you’re using tincture, let it cool to 106ºC and at that point, add the cannabis tincture. Also, add the flavoring. Mix well and carefully pour the mixture into the molds. Then place a stick into each cavity to form the lollipops.
Let the caramel cool and harden, then remove from the molds. Your fantastic THC or CBD candies (depending on what you chose) are ready. Wrap them in cellophane and share them with your friends.
