While they have been used for many decades for spiritual purposes, hallucinogenic mushrooms were later demonized for a long time. However, modern medicine is increasingly interested in the potential benefits of hallucinogenic mushrooms in treating certain diseases. All in all, perhaps not everything is to be rejected… We have prepared a compilation of the far too unknown benefits of magic mushrooms.
Benefits of hallucinogenic mushrooms: more than just hallucinations
When consuming hallucinogenic mushrooms, the psilocybin they contain affects our brain. This notably leads to the famous hallucinations that we are familiar with. But did you know that hallucinogenic mushrooms have real benefits that occur during and after their ingestion?
We remind you that the consumption of hallucinogenic mushrooms is illegal in France. The following information is provided for informational purposes only.
Benefits of magic mushrooms on the brain
This topic is not yet entirely clear from a scientific point of view, but hallucinogenic mushrooms are believed to have benefits on the brain. According to recent studies, hallucinogenic mushrooms may improve certain cognitive functions (cognitive function = interaction of an individual with their environment). Additionally, they lengthen neuronal dendrites, promoting the passage of information between neurons.
Merging with the universe?
After taking magic mushrooms, a unique effect occurs: the dissolution of the ego. The concept of self changes completely, and the consumer can feel one with their surroundings, as all the barriers that inhibit them in daily life disappear. Senses blend: hearing, smell, touch, sight, and taste seem to be interconnected. This is called synesthesia. Everything is connected, an exceptional sensation for the consumer. Some mushrooms, like the Golden Teacher, bring a spiritual touch to this fusion.
A life-altering experience
People who have consumed hallucinogenic mushrooms often explain that this experience has transformed them forever. Their view of themselves and the world around them sometimes changes radically, whether the trip went well or not. Besides, this can lead to a modification of beliefs, values, and appreciations of the consumer, who generally becomes more open-minded. It is also noted that psilocybin consumers often have a lot of respect for nature and all living beings.
Beneficial uses of magic mushrooms
Some uses of hallucinogenic mushrooms can be beneficial on a medical or personal development level. This is why many civilizations consumed them during rituals (especially in Mexico where they used the Mexicana mushroom), and why they are now studied by scientists. To study psilocybin, hallucinogenic mushroom kits of the most famous varieties are used. In addition to those mentioned earlier, many sites and establishments sell other popular varieties for researchers, such as Mazatapec, Amazonian, B+, Thai, or McKennaii.

Meditation
The brain under psilocybin activates the emotion center in the same way as when dreaming. Therefore, psilocybin is sometimes taken in the context of meditation (especially mindfulness meditation). In a virtuous circle, meditating after taking hallucinogenic mushrooms enhances the positive effects of psilocybin, which itself increases the intensity of meditation. The trance sensation will intensify.
Microdosing
A consumption method currently being studied. Microdosing involves ingesting small amounts of psilocybin, i.e., doses of less than one gram (between 0.1 g and 0.5 g of dried mushrooms). Consumption is usually one day out of three, and it may improve creativity, mood, concentration, logic, etc. over the long term, as well as help treat headaches, migraines, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and addiction.
Psychedelic-assisted therapies
Psychedelic-assisted therapies are theoretically controlled by the state and supervised by medical professionals. They involve administering a dose of hallucinogenic mushrooms to a patient, who is monitored by a psychologist or psychiatrist. They could help treat many psychological/psychiatric illnesses and disorders such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, OCD, and addictions, among others. However, psychedelic-assisted therapies do not yet exist in France.
Research on psychedelics and therefore the benefits of hallucinogenic mushrooms are still ongoing. Who knows, maybe they will be exploited by medicine in fifteen years. This will have to go hand in hand with legislation, as currently hallucinogenic mushrooms remain illegal in France, even in a medical context. To be continued…
