In my case I bought it to connect the filter to the outlet duct but I realized that for soundproof ducts for instance it's really necessary because otherwise it's very tricky to fit the filter and once you manage, being tight-fitting it pinches the duct opening preventing air flow, so in my opinion it's a must-have
