The US protests with 4.200 joints

The 6th of November 2016 was an important date in the USA; apart from electing Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States, another strange law was passed that surprised many people accross the globe; marijuana consumption for recreational and medicinal uses was legalized in some states up to a certain amount of grams.

This news was taken amazingly by most consumers in the United States, who now don’t have to go to the black market in search of marijuana; they’ll be able to buy it at shops or grow their own.

Although, one of the strangest things about this country is that even though they all have the same president, every state has its own set of laws. That’s why it differs from state to state; consuming marijuana is medicinally legal but not recreationally legal in some states, some states have legalized both, and in some it’s illegal and penalized. This is annoying for those that like to visit other states and don’t want to have to worry about the law changing.

One of the best ways to protest:

What better way to protest against this then at one of the most internationally and nationally visible events of the year, Trump’s inauguration as the 45th president of the United States. The DCMJ gave out 4.200 joints to those assisting the protest for legalization for recreational and medicinal uses in all states, and they all lit up together at exactly 4:20 minutes into Trump’s speech.

The protest was held at the Washington roundabout, DuPont Circle, one of the most well-known and emblematic D.C. sites, and just like any good organisation they held the event with their own mascot, a marijuana leaf. No legal action was taken although the organization itself explained that they could have been arrested. In the state of Washington you are allowed to have 28g in you at most per person over age (21 in America) and you can have 6 plants for your own personal use, although it can’t be sold or bought and you’re not allowed to smoke it in public places.

Although all of this happened at a convenient time, the DCMJ has explained that they don’t wish to take part in anything that is for or against the new president, they just thought that it would be a good event to take advantage of and be heard.
