Jump to recipe Print recipe

It’s officially January and it’s almost the end of another wonderful holiday season, although in some areas of the world there’s still another holiday on the horizon: Three Kings Day. On this day, in many countries such as Spain, they celebrate with a special cake called a Rosca de Reyes, or Three Kings Bread – so today we’re going to show you our very own Rosca de Reyes recipe with cannabis!

Rosca de Reyes Recipe with Cannabis

Rosca de Reyes is a traditional, classic Spanish recipe that we’ve decided to modify slightly and add a special ingredient for such a festive occasion. We’re going to show you how to make a Rosca de Reyes with cannabis, a unique experience that you can share with your friends or family this season. It’s super easy to make and you can find almost every ingredient in your usual supermarket – apart from the cannabis, of course.

Ingredients

  • 500 g flour
  • 30 g yeast
  • 1 glass of milk
  • 150 g butter
  • 5 g cannabis flowers or 20g resinous leaves
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 small spoon of salt
  • 2 eggs
  • Lemon zest
  • Candied fruit optional
  • Almonds optional
  • Icing sugar optional
  • Cream and truffle optional

Instructions

  • In order to make this cannabis recipe, along with many others, the easiest way to get the cannabinoids to stay in the actual cake is to make your very own cannabis butter and use that instead of regular butter
    5 g cannabis flowers or 20g resinous leaves, 150 g butter
  • The first thing that you’ll have to do is make your cannabis butter if you do not have some made already. Once you have some cannabutter you can begin making your own delicious, psychoactive Rosca de Reyes.

Step 1:

  • Pour half a glass of milk into a bowl, alongside three large spoons of flour and the yeast. Mix it well until it begins to thicken and is even. Next, cover the bowl and let it sit for about 30 minutes, which allows it to ferment a bit and increases the texture of the resulting bread. Once this is done, add the sugar, leftover milk, eggs, lemon zest, salt and lastly your delicious cannabis butter. Next, sprinkle some flour on a flat surface in your kitchen and knead the dough for about 10 minutes, giving it a ball shape. Cover the resulting ball in cling film and let it sit for a couple of hours in a warm area.
    500 g flour, 30 g yeast, 1 glass of milk, 100 g sugar, 1 small spoon of salt, 2 eggs, Lemon zest
  • Note: For a perfectly blended mixture, you’ll need to mix the ingredients in one by one rather than adding them all at once and mixing them together – you’ll get much better results if you take your time, even if it does take a bit longer.

Step 2:

  • After a couple of hours, the dough should have grown – sprinkle some more flour on your worktop and knead it for a couple more minutes. Next, roll it out and make a hole in the middle – you’re essentially trying to make a big, oval shaped donut.
  • Note: Make the hole quite big, as it’ll grow when cooked and it may end up closing in the middle.

Step 3:

  • Pre-heat your oven to 180°C, spread a layer of egg over the dough and begin decorating it with the rest of your ingredients – this depends entirely on your preferences. You can use almonds, icing sugar, candied fruit, and many other ingredients. Once you’ve decorated your Three Kings Bread and the oven is hot enough, place it in the oven for about 20-25 minutes, depending on how thick it is. Once it’s done, simply wait until it’s cooled down, cut it down the middle and add cream and truffle – or simply leave it whole, if you’d prefer!

Recommendations

The Spanish tradition of Rosca de Reyes also has a sort of game to it – people tend to put a bean and a small figurine, either a King or Baby Jesus, in the Rosca after cutting it. If you get the bean you have to pay for next years’ Rosca, and if you get the king you get to wear a crown. We recommend switching out the bean for a bit of hash and the king for some bud, properly wrapped in cling film or tin foil, obviously. It makes for a much more entertaining game!

Important

Roscón de Reyes con cannabis

Keep in mind that when you consume cannabis via ingestion, it can take much longer to have an effect than when it’s smoked or vaped. It’s also much more potent when consumed this way, and we recommend staying patient until you begin to feel it take effect; if you eat too much you may not feel too well afterwards. Also, make sure to keep it away from children, and store it in a higher area so that they can’t get to it.
