Marijuana growing is something that varies depending on area, resources and laws, which is why in certain areas around the globe, marijuana that is 10 times more potent than others is grown. Here in Spain we have quite a favorable climate for growing, as well as the necessary resources to grow marijuana in large quantities. Other places in Europe aren’t as lucky due to either a bad climate or laws that are too strict to test, or simply not enough resources to plant their own plants. This has pushed people to think of imaginative ways to get marijuana across any border, although a lot of them end up arrested. Today we’re going to talk about some of the best marijuana transport stings.
3 people arrested in Alicante for transporting 130kg of marijuana hidden in garlic:
The culprits were a 45 year old Dutch man, a 46 year old Ukrainian man and a 38 year old Polish man who were growing marijuana in Alicante to then transport it and supply it in Holland. They were carrying the merchandise hidden in a truck full of garlic, taking advantage of the strong smell to camouflage the marijuana aroma.
The truck was intercepted during a routine check, and the police were caught off guard by the strong smell coming from the truck so they decided to investigate it. Out of 48 boxes in the truck, 25 contained marijuana.
After investigating the culprits’ houses, 300,000€ in cash, 90 grams of hash and over 20 ecstasy pills were found.
4 people responsible for sending marijuana to Romania in boxes of toys arrested:
The culprits were 4 Romanian and Spanish men between 23 and 31 years old, and only one of them had a criminal record. During the sting they found 9 kilos of marijuana and almost 10,000€ in cash. The investigation started mid-September, when a couple of police agents were doing a routine check, and they found 2 GPS systems in a car (used to know where each box with the merchandise was), as well as 9,000€ in the wallet of one of the people in the car.
The suspects were using a rented car to do the delivery, which they were doing in the Valencia bus station. The National Police agents waited for the suspect to leave his car and go into the station while the other man waited with the car running. As they got closer to the suspect, they saw that he was carrying a large box full of toys, which were all in turn full of airtight marijuana baggies. In total, they found about 7800g, and when they searched the suspects’ hotel room they found a kids boxing bag with 10.000€ and almost 1,400g more of marijuana. They had been using pepper spray and creams to mask the smell.
2017 is off to a different start, importing marijuana from the USA:
A bag of dried fruit was found in Granada that was full of marijuana. The package came from the city of Oakland, California. Inside the bag of dried fruit there was a small amount of USA imported marijuana.
A 36 year old man responsible for receiving the package was investigated by Spanish National Police, and they discovered that he was a regular guy without any sort of criminal record. The man was told to pick up his package, but when he got there he was met with various National Police agents that were waiting there to catch him.
National Police agents confirmed that there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the bag, which is why they searched it. Inside the bag they found an assortment of dried fruits that had strange looking pistachios. Even though the bag was thermically closed, they decided to open it and check what was on the inside, where they found 42 grams of marijuana inside the pistachios.

The pistachios had been emptied and filled with pressed marijuana of the highest USA quality. The marijuana was a dark green color and extremely hard and resinous. All they had to do was open the pistachios, empty them then wash the casing and let them dry. Due to the hardness of the marijuana on the inside, they did indeed look like pistachios. The pistachios practically closed on their own due to the stickiness of the marijuana resin.
These sorts of events set of all kinds of alarms, due to how it implies the use of new systems to get marijuana across the border; the Spanish National Police is already developing new techniques to impede illegal substances getting into the country.
