Some countries will simply fine you, it could be a lot or it could be a ridiculously small amount, whereas other countries have prison time and even the death penalty!

Australia has some restrictive laws when it comes to cannabis; if you’re caught with seeds or gear on you when entering the country you will be kicked out and exiled from Australia. Some areas have a prison sentence of life depending on the quantity you have, and other areas have a simple caution or fine when it comes to possessing cannabis.

Germany still has terribly restrictive laws on cannabis, although if you have a serious illness that has absolutely no other treatment you are allowed a permit to obtain medicinal cannabis. It’s extremely hard to get this kind of permit, and although Germany has quite a high population of cannabis users, recent polls have showed that over two thirds of Germany doesn’t support the legalization of cannabis, and if you’re caught with cannabinoids in your system when driving (which can happen even if you haven’t smoked in a while) they can take you down to the station, do an invasive blood test, a psychomotor test and then let you go – most likely without your car keys.

France, surprisingly, also has quite a prohibitionist outlook on cannabis, maybe one of the strictest ones in Europe – a simple t-shirt with a weed leaf on it can cause you many issues; the same applies to stickers, keychains or anything else related to cannabis that is visible to the public eye. They don’t differentiate between hard and soft drugs, and possessing cannabis can lead to a ten year prison sentence. This is simply what the law states, as it seems that if you get caught once they will let you off with a simple warning and the 10 year prison sentence is rarely enforced.

In Saudi Arabia any drug, whether it’s a hard or soft drug, is punished with severe punishments such as years in prison and being deported in a best-case scenario, but if luck isn’t on your side you could also receive a helping of lashings. In Indonesia they don’t discriminate between tourists and locals; if you’re caught smoking cannabis you will be charged as a local, and you could land in prison for a good 4 to 20 years. Oh, and if you’re thinking of selling cannabis, forget about it; the punishment for trafficking cannabis is the death penalty.

In Taiwan both using and possessing small quantities can land you in prison for up to seven years – if you have more than a small quantity then you can also get the death sentence, but apparently by bribing the police you can easily get out of this issue – we don’t recommend testing that theory!

China is a country in which it’s easy to find heroin, cocaine and meth depending on where abouts in china you are, however cannabis is another story. Small quantities of cannabis can lead to a fine and some time behind bars, but if you’re caught with more than 50g of weed on you then China will be the last place you see – death penalty!

In Oman, any consumer of any sort of drug will receive 20 years in prison and 50 lashes. In extreme cases simple possession of drugs can also lead to the death penalty. If you’re caught trafficking any kind of drug you will have to do your 20 years in prison and then they’ll deport you back to your country.

Singapore is a country that every stoner should be well aware of: you will go straight to prison and have to pay a heavy fine up to 20 thousand Singapore dollars, and if you’re found with over 500g of cannabis or any other drug you will be sentenced straight to death, which in this country is by hanging. Having any sort of instruments or devices used in drug trafficking, storing or making is also punishable by a prison sentence.

All of these places are absolutely beautiful and amazing to visit, so if you can manage to do without green for a while you should definitely visit them; if you can’t stomach it, then don’t even attempt to go to these places with cannabis on you!

Author: Fabio Inga
Translation: Ciara Murphy

In this article we’re going to talk about countries that stoners should never visit; the most dangerous countries in the world for cannabis lovers – these places are much closer than you thought, so we’re going to give you a list of places to take off of your holiday destination list.
