only involves the <em>Eisenia fetida<\/em> worm, a spectacular laboratory hybrid capable of devouring a large amount of organic waste and converting it into vermicompost. <span style=\"line-height: In such a case, you should turn and aerate the mixture into the next crate. If, on the other hand, the mixture dries out too much, it will be enough to <strong>water it a little to prevent the process from stopping<\/strong>. If everything has gone well, the mixture will begin to transform, going through several stages.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\"><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first lasts a few days; the pile of organic matter begins to be colonized by aerobic bacteria that start the decomposition due to the supply of nutrients, humidity, and oxygen. <span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><strong>As a result of the bacteria&#8217;s activity, the mixture begins to heat up<\/strong>, reaching temperature peaks of up to 80\u00b0C.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At these temperatures, <strong>the ground is sterilized of larvae and undesirable seeds<\/strong>. In this second stage, you can see how the pile decreases, and you will be able to incorporate new remains while respecting the green-to-dry ratio. Over time, the temperature drops and the mixture will be decomposed into rich compost thanks to the action of worms, woodlice, and other invertebrates, with the exception of the thicker woody remains.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organic matter will be completely decomposed when it has a <strong>dark brown, almost black color and smells like wet forest<\/strong>. The entire process lasts between 5 and 6 months; the transformation is slow, and it is necessary to be careful to maintain good humidity conditions to <strong>prevent the mixture from compacting, rotting, or drying out<\/strong>, thus paralyzing the process; although in the end, you will have in your hands the best food you can give your plants.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compost <strong>has very good qualities<\/strong>, among which <strong>the following are worth noting:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It adds organic matter to the soil.<\/li>\n\n<li>It helps the development of healthy and strong root structures.<\/li>\n\n<li>It loosens clay soils, improving drainage.<\/li>\n\n<li>It adds density to sandy soils, improving moisture retention.<\/li>\n\n<li>It attracts and feeds earthworms.<\/li>\n\n<li>It improves the pH (acidity\/alkalinity) of the soil.<\/li>\n\n<li>It reduces the water demand of plants and trees.<\/li>\n\n<li>It helps control erosion.<\/li>\n\n<li>It reduces plant stress during periods of drought or frost.<\/li>\n\n<li>It improves the mineral and vitamin content of food grown in compost-rich soils.<\/li>\n\n<li>Applied generously to the soil, it can completely replace petrochemical fertilizers.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you <strong>prefer to try a vermicompost bin<\/strong> instead, you should know that vermicompost or worm castings are classified as one of the best fertilizers that exist. In this case, the decomposition process <strong>takes place inside the stomach<\/strong> of the <em>Eisenia fetida<\/em> worm, a Californian hybrid&#8230; heh&#8230; that <strong>manages to return 70%<\/strong> of the ingested food as rich humus.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is <strong>capable of withstanding extreme temperatures from 3 to 35\u00b0C<\/strong>, although its optimal temperature is 20\u00b0C.
